we have this research project on coffee beans to be used as fertilizer and according to our investigations coffee beans also has some chemicals and nutrients that somehow has a resemblance to a fertilizer.
A laboratory analysis showed that "the grounds provide generous amounts of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper. Also the release of nitrogen in the soil as they degrade. "Here is a summary of the report: Use of Starbucks coffee grounds in amending soils minerals up to 35 percent by volume coffee grounds improve soil structure in the short term and long term. Using coffee grounds in the incorporation Specified Rates (Rototiller in a 6 – to 8-inch depth) will improve substantially the availability of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper and is likely to negate the need chemical sources of these essential elements for the plant. Nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium "guaranteed analysis" would be as follows for the coffee beans: Nitrogen: 2.28 percent Phosphorus: 0.06 percent Potassium: 0.6 percent nutrient levels available: The pH or reaction of the dregs of Coffee is considered slightly acidic and in a favorable range of 6.2 on the pH scale. Salinity (ECE) is a measure of total soluble salts and is considered slightly elevated at 3.7 dS / m. The primary water-soluble salts in this product are potassium, magnesium, sodium and chloride. Potentially problematic ions sodium and chloride are each sufficiently low as to be insignificant in terms of creating problems for plants. The availability of nitrogen, calcium, zinc, manganese and iron are very low and in some cases poor. Thus, the coffee grounds are not provided substantial quantities of these essential elements for the plant where ore is used as a soil amendment. However, the availability phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper are high enough that there will be a very positive impact on improving availabilities of these elements in the coffee grounds are used as a soil amendment mineral. The coffee grounds will negate the need for additional sources of phosphorus, potassium, magnesium and copper when mixed with mineral soils.
